Real bonds can grow through social apps, well past tapping like on posts. Maybe you dream of meeting a creator you follow in person. Plenty of fans feel that same pull. When a meetup is off the table, TikTok LIVE lets you talk with them as it happens.
Watching a stream is open to all. Getting onto one is trickier. This guide covers how to add a guest to your TikTok LIVE, how to join someone else’s stream, and the snags you could hit along the way.
A LIVE is a broadcast shown as it happens. Once someone starts, the app streams whatever they are doing right then. It might be a person building a LEGO set, running a Q&A, or passing an ordinary afternoon.
Fans watch with nothing cut out. No edits, no retakes.
The format comes with a few conditions. To broadcast or co-host, you need to clear these:
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| Age | 16 or older |
| Followers | 1,000 at minimum |
| Account | In good order under TikTok’s Community Guidelines |
Fall short on any, and hosting or sharing a feed is off-limits. Viewing stays free for everyone, no matter your follower total or account status.
Still working toward that threshold? This guide on how many followers you need to go live on TikTok breaks it down.
Clear the rules above, and you can ask to enter a stream already running. Join as a co-host, and viewers see both feeds at once. Try this:
Tip: message the creator first. Knowing who you are, they may say yes. A friend’s stream is easy. A big name will likely decline.
A creator can offer you a spot before you even ask. The snag is timing. You get twenty seconds to say yes, and most hosts only invite people they already know.
To take an invite:
Already streaming and want company? Send an invite. Once your feed is running, do this:
Meet every rule yet still stuck outside? Two causes come up often.
| Cause | What It Means |
|---|---|
| Friends Only | The host limited the stream to friends, so others stay shut out |
| Not recognised | The host declined because your name looked unfamiliar |

Show some spark to boost your invite odds:
Now get ready to show up on a TikTok LIVE. For more creator advice, the TTS Vibes blog covers growth, streaming, and monetization topics.
Start your LIVE, tap the half-circles icon at the bottom-left, then tap “Invite” next to the person’s name. They have twenty seconds to accept before the invite expires.
You need at least 1,000 followers and must be 16 or older to host or co-host a TikTok LIVE. Watching a stream has no follower requirement at all.
You get twenty seconds. The invite appears in your notifications, and tapping “Join LIVE” puts you on screen instantly. Miss the window and the host must send a new invite.
The host may have set the stream to Friends Only, or your account falls short of the 1,000-follower or age requirement. Hosts can also decline requests from names they don’t recognise.
Yes. Tap “Leave LIVE” whenever you want to exit. The stream continues without you, and leaving has no effect on your account or your ability to join future streams.
